ABOUT THE JOAD PROGRAM – JUNIOR OLYMPIC ARCHERY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Wa-Xo-Be hosts a Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Program. This program is open to members and non-members alike and is intended for those archers, ages 8 to 18, with a serious interest in learning and competing in the sport of archery.
Both recurve and compound bows are used in the program’s activities and archers are instructed in the use of one or both disciplines. As JOAD archers develop, they can train to compete in local and regional tournaments, and can earn a seat on a youth world team to compete in other countries representing the United States on behalf of USA Archery. Recurve archers can realize the added benefit of being able to try for a spot on the US Olympic Archery team which is selected and managed by USA Archery.
While the JOAD program is intended for the development of youth archers, Wa-Xo-Be and USA Archery recognize the fun and family-oriented benefits of the sport. We therefore, offer an adult segment to our JOAD program – Adult Achievement Program. Interested adults need not have a child enrolled in the program in order to participate.
Youth and adult participants from beginner through advanced archers are offered instruction in proper technique. Sessions also include instruction and guidance on issues of fitness, nutrition, archery education, equipment selection and repair and the various aspects of competitive archery. Youth and adult archers can earn achievement awards based upon their development.
The program meets every Saturday afternoon from 5-7pm. The per-session cost to participate is $7 for members and $8 for non-members.*
*rates are subject to change with little or no advanced notice, based upon cost of program materials.
